Only in America.....

Only in America ......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America .......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

Only in America ......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America .....do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America.......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America ......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

EVER WONDER ...Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?

Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

2009!!

So many memories from 2008, some not so good, but who wants to remember those...mostly for me they were good. That's what life's about, making memories, experiencing the good with the bad and growing from there, knowing limitations, taking responsibility, drawing from inner strength that is there but needs awakening every once in a while, all that kind of stuff! I'm still realizing and learning this even in my old years.

Mostly, I'm thankful for my family, that we all made it through 2008. I'm thankful for everything my mom and dad have done for me, without them I think I would've just laid down and gave up - - I could've done that so many times, especially in the last year. But they're always there to pick me up and give me a shove (shove me around) ha! I've drawn on that strength a lot! Thankful for my sisters, when worse comes to worse we all know that we can call on each other for motivation, moral boosts, laughs, etc.

I can never thank my ex-husband enough for Emma and Gary! I am very thankful that I was left with the responsibility and the privilege of raising them even though I've questioned my ability to raise a son many, many times, having no experience what-so-ever dealing with boys. I see what kind of young man he is becoming, he has a huge capacity for caring about people even though on the surface it seems like it's 'all about him'.

Even though this post is a little deeper than usual, I'm hoping that 2008 blends into 2009 with ease ....and that my family stays stronger than ever!!
